What do the Belts Mean?
At Brooklin Martial Arts, belts represent your progression through our curriculum and are earned, not given. Throughout the season, you'll participate in progress checks to demonstrate skills learned.
At season's end, successful students are pre-tested in class, then invited to our grading ceremony.
To advance, you must show prerequisite skills and exemplify good character through our Black Belt Excellence program. Every belt you tie on is a reminder of how far you've come and what lies ahead.
Belt Tying
Belts should be tied properly and both sides should be even. This represents self-care and balance.
Since the belt is an extension of oneself, it should be treated with respect. Never drag or leave your belt on the ground. It should be folded and placed in your training bag when not being worn.
- Fold the belt in half to find the middle
- Place the middle of the belt at your navel
- Wrap the two ends around your waist and back to the front
- Overlap the ends on top of each other on your stomach
- Tuck the tod end underneath all the layers of the belt
- Fold the bottom end underneath the top end to tie a knot
